Key Tip for TRAINING

Cross-train your staff. The days of one person doing just one job should be long gone and the more flexibility you can build in to your workforce, the more their deployment can match the demand. Staff also benefit from the increased appreciation of each others roles that comes with cross-training. Few people like 'twiddling their thumbs' at times of low demand and would much rather be re-deployed so they feel they are making a positive contribution.

A key aim of the 1% Challenge is to reduce downtime and staff flexibility is the main way of achieving this.
