Key Tip for MAINTENANCE

Maintenance should not be something you do when something breaks down but rather be a strict programme of preventative actions taken at pre-determined intervals. Like most of our tips, that is simply common sense but often the pressures of demand make it all too easy to skip maintenance in favour of production. Whilst this may solve an immediate problem, it is potentially shortening the life of what may be an expensive asset.

Breakdowns do not happen to idle machines so if a breakdown is going to occur due to poor maintenance, it is going to be at the detriment of an order that is in progress. From a 1% challenge perspective there is no immediate measurable outcome as we are potentially increasing short term costs for the benefit of long term gains. We should therfore be looking for an improvement in maintenance fulfilment as a measurable outcome.
